The fourth industrial revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, is one of the greatest challenges small and medium-sized enterprises are facing today and in the future. Many of them have been market leaders for decades and have successfully optimized their products and services in an „offline world“. The integration of smart products and services with respect to Industry 4.0 offers new opportunities and levels to create value in the value chain. The identification of these dormant values and the development of new business models are a major obstacle for SMEs today. This article therefore presents a TRIZ-derived Nine-field matrix and a morphological analysis method to support SMEs in information-based Industry 4.0 business model development based on existing products and services. The practical applicability of the method is shown in an industrial case study.en_US
