Abstract
Family businesses have unique ethical dynamics that are shaped by family involvement, distinguishing them from non-family firms. Family involvement may support socioemotional wealth (SEW) and promote non-economic goals like family values, socially responsible behaviour, and trust-focused aims among owners and successors. However, ethical decisions that benefit family members and employees over external stakeholders may also be prioritised. Previous research on ethical issues in family firms remains limited. This Special Issue proposes an integrative framework for and presents papers on family businesses and ethics, highlighting the interplay of SEW and contextual influences shaping behaviour. Future research directions are discussed.
