Abstract
Even though South Tyrol is the region of origin of the Haflinger horse breed and still plays
a significant role in the breeding and spreading of the breed, there is a lack of local structures
that can be used for the training of horses, riders and breeders and as a central contact
point for marketing. In order to identify ways of improving the training and marketing
situation, the present situation with regard to training and marketing was first
recorded within the framework of a comprehensive online survey of breeders and appropriate
recommendations were developed on this basis. The results of the online survey
highlights the breeders' desire and need to establish a training and marketing structure
that could sustainably improve and secure the competitiveness of South Tyrolean
Haflinger breeding.
