Abstract
The solutions of the equation for the propagator in the radial gauge x(mu)A(mu)(x) = 0 are studied. After finding a particular solution GAMMA(mu-rho)(x,y), the most general solution G(mu-rho)0(x,y) of the homogeneous equation is written. It is shown that GAMMA(rho-mu)(y,x) is not a solution; moreover, it is impossible to symmetrize GAMMA(mu-rho)(x,y) by addition of a homogeneous solution. A "symmetrized" generalization of the equation for the propagator is thus proposed. The photon propagator can also be calculated in this gauge using the field strength F(mu-rho)(x), but it turns out to exist only in (4 - epsilon) dimensions.
