Abstract
The Tyrolean Iceman “Oetzi” is Europe’s oldest known human mummy. His body is well-preserved due to natural mummification in the glacier ice and allows a unique view on human beings during the Chalcolithic period (3400-3100 BCE). His age is estimated at 45 years, and his height at 160 cm. A, Macroscopically, his ocular region appeared retruded. Computed tomography (CT) (Fig B, axial; Fig C, coronal; Fig D, parasagittal CT-reconstruction) revealed a well-preserved optic nerve in its intraorbital course and through the bony canal to the optic chiasm.
