Abstract
Recently, form featured a few projects from Japan including a research project on “Bamboo Charcoal” (↗ form 265, p. 22) by Toshiki Yabushita and a series of “50 Manga Chairs” (↗ form 266, p. 96) by Japanese studio Nendo. Once you visit Japan and discover the abun- dance of bamboo forests in the rural areas and the manga comic shops downtown, sudden- ly it starts to make sense why these Japanese designers do what they do. Aart van Bezooijen’s special interest for this country brought him back to Japan earlier in 2016 and resulted in a few interesting material discoveries, which he outlines in the following.
