Abstract
The Venice Biennale still keeps the same structure of the universal exhibition as it was when it opened in 1895. Following this structure, every country should exhibit the best artworks produced within its borders in the last two years. This essay looks through the critical approachadopted by some artists (in particular Dora Garcìa and Yael Bartana) towards the concept of nation-state and the consequent defense of the borders from refugees and strangers.
