Abstract
Visual communication and its related branches are relatively young subjects, whose careers, such as graphic, type and web designers, have been developing for a few decades now and, thanks to technology and ever-changing skills, are constantly being redefined. It goes without saying that the historicization and teaching of these disciplines is also a process in continuous formation and evolution, its teaching courses varying from informal lectures by veteran practitioners (like folklore handed down by wise and knowledgeable elders) to structured classes and symposia by scholars and hands-on practitioners’ (Heller, 2019, 11). The reference literature on the topic is dated, scanty, and numbers no more than a few dozen titles.
This article aims at analysing the multiple ways of approaching and narrating the design history, just as the critical issues related to each of these are also different.
