Abstract
Studies on the role of the prévôté de Paris as a linguistic actor in the 13th century are still rare and very partial. However, the provostry was - alongside (and earlier than) the royal chancellery - the second major royal institution in Paris, which through its use of French strongly influenced the linguistic shape of what would one day become standard French. In the first part of the article, the project to establish a corpus of original French charters of the prévôté de Paris - within the Documents linguistiques galloromans project (http://www.rose.uzh.ch/docling/) - is illustrated. Then, an overview of the use of French at the Paris provostry in the 13th century is given. Finally, the oldest French document of this institution is edited and analysed from the point of view of its linguistic characteristics.
