Abstract
The theatrical performance is a powerful and radical expression of the relation between society and creative action. This paper will inquire some of the most relevant theoretical issues in sociology of the theatre in order to actualize the debate on the relevance of theatre in contemporary society. Through the theories of Duvignaud, Meldolesi, Artaud, Grotowski this paper will analyze the undeveloped issues and lost chances of the encountering between theatre and society. Such as: a close relation between theatre and sociology, both inquiring human relationships starting from roles and closed groups of people; a second issue is how theatre perform society and build social awareness; how social dynamics can be unmasked by theatre as well as social fake can be expressed by the theatre. In the digital society theatre can have a crucial role for many reasons: to socialize again to a new society; understand emerging social roles and how they change; inquire the shift of creativity and last, but not least, put the basis for a reflection on society and human relation from a rich, complex, creative point of view such as society performed by the theatre.
