Abstract
The present research examines the Macedonian heritage language in Italy. The focus is on heritage language use, maintenance and transmission. The study, conducted through interviews and a questionnaire, reveals how Macedonian heritage gradually gets replaced by Italian in all aspects of life except for the family environment. There is a perceived risk of loss of the Macedonian heritage language and without interventions in near future it might disappear. In the current context, to preserve the Macedonian language in Italy, it is crucial to encourage the use of Macedonian within the family, read books, and interact with the Macedonian community. But, above all, there should be willingness of the next generations to use it and implement the above mentioned points.
