Abstract
Climate-Smart Forestry (CSF) integrates mitigation, adaptation, and socio-economic performance to address climate change in forest management. Despite the increasing use of CSF indicators, a standardized and user- friendly operational tool is still lacking. This study presents the Climate-Smart Forestry Assessment Tool (CSF- AT), a web-based application that automates the calculation of a composite climate-smart index, integrates the three CSF pillars, and generates visual outputs to support research and management decisions. The tool's us ability and versatility are demonstrated through two case studies. In the Collemeluccio Forest (Italy), CSF-AT highlights the climate-smartness implications of alternative silvicultural strategies and supports scenario exploration. A second application, using ICP Forests Level II data from Scots pine stands across five European countries, reveals spatial and temporal patterns and enables cross-country comparisons. Results confirm the tool's applicability across scales, offering a transparent, standardized, and accessible platform that bridges the gap between CSF conceptual frameworks and its practical implementation.
