Abstract
Presents responses to the following questions by more than 30 young designers who have recently graduated from design schools in Italy: What is lacking in design education in Italy? What is lacking in Italian schools of design? What experiences and opportunities of teaching and learning should be placed at the centre of any changes? And what models or ideas might be useful in this debate? The author, a graphic designer and associate professor in the Faculty of Design and Art at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, discusses the common themes to be found in the students' suggestions and proposals, and calls for further action to be taken to make these schools more relevant to the modern world.
