Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the energy efficiency evolution in China and 11 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) from 1990 to 2000. It notes that analysis has been restricted to the industrial sector because it makes the largest contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) generation for both high- and middle-income countries. It emphasizes that two approaches have been used based on the multiplicative log-mean divisia method. The first approach allows the variation breakdowns on the increased energy-intensity changes due to composition of industrial sector and sectoral energy intensity. The second approach allows the computation of the production impacts.
