Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged the education system to reconsider teaching and learning practices from primary to tertiary level. Distance teaching is methodologically and conceptually different from face-to-face teaching and warrants some out-of-the-box thinking. The basic premise of online teaching is the maintenance of a positive relationship between teachers and pupils, as Minardi (2020) posits. Promoting the interaction among international pupils and students is one of the key objectives of the project illustrated in the present article. Specifically, the MSSP2 (Meisei Summer School Project 2020) is a transnational online project on English language teaching (ELT) to young learners (YLs) that has been conducted at the Faculty of Education of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy) in cooperation with the University of Meisei (Japan) during the current pandemic. The project aims to promote transnational cooperation through the involvement of academic staff, university students, teachers, and pupils from various primary schools.
