Abstract
In Anlehnung an Roland Barthes’ Mythologies von 1957 widmet sich dieses Buch dem Vorhaben, fast sieben Jahrzehnte nach Erscheinen des berühmten Klassikers heutige Mythen des Alltags zu benennen und näher zu erkunden. Wie ein Flaneur hatte sich Roland Barthes (1915-1980) seinerzeit in die französische Alltagskultur hineinbegeben, Betrachtungen angestellt, Positionen vertreten. Mit selbstbewusster Subjektivität hat er sich Themen ausgesucht, mit meisterhafter Beobachtungsgabe hat er sie skizziert, in provokativ-spielerischen Worten hat er ihre Merkmale und Besonderheiten zutage gefördert.
Die vorliegende ‘Aktualisierung’ aus Sicht des 21. Jahrunderts geschieht - wie damals bei Barthes selbst - in Form kurzer, pointierter Texte zu Alltagsphänomenen der Gegenwart. Mehr als 30 Autor*innen aus dem In- und Ausland sind der Einladung gefolgt, heutige Mythen des Alltags zu benennen und neben ihren Beobachtungen auch kritische Positionen zu formulieren.
In bewusstem Unterschied zu dem inzwischen längst legendären Vorgängerprojekt konzentriert sich die vorliegende Dokumentation auf Themen und Fragestellungen, die den Bereichen Design, Architektur, Kunst und Umwelt zugeordnet sind oder für diese in besonderer Weise relevant erscheinen: Gestalterinnen und Gestalter sind zum einen die Urheber*innen der versammelten Beiträge. Zum anderen zählen Interessierte an Fragen des Designs, der Kunst und generell der Umweltgestaltung - darunter insbesondere Studierende - zur vorrangigen Zielgruppe dieses Projekts.
Con riferimento ai 'Miti d'oggi' di Roland Barthes (1957), la presente documentazione di ricerca individua, esplora ed analizza - quasi sette decenni dopo la pubblicazione del celebre classico francese - una serie di miti quotidiani contemporanei, dei tempi nostri. Come un flâneur, Roland Barthes (1915-1980) si immerse, a suo tempo, nella cultura quotidiana francese, formulando osservazioni e posizioni al riguardo. Con una soggettività autorevole scelse i temi e fenomeni da osservare più da vicino, delineandone con maestria origini, contesti, messaggi e portandone alla luce - con parole allo stesso tempo precise, ludiche e smascheranti - caratteristiche e peculiarità.
L'update in relazione al XXI secolo avviene – proprio come ai tempi di Barthes stesso – sotto forma di testi brevi e incisivi circa fenomeni quotidiani della contemporaneità. Più di 30 autori e autrici internazionali hanno accolto l'invito a identificare dei miti quotidiani odierni e a formulare, accanto a descrizioni e osservazioni, le loro posizioni al riguardo.
A differenza dell'ormai leggendaria iniziativa di Barthes, la ricerca documentata nel presente volume é incentrata su temi e questioni intorno ai settori del design, dell'architettura, dell'arte e dell'ambiente. Da un lato, i contributi stessi provengono da progettisti, curatori, artisti, teorici. Dall'altro, il progetto si rivolge a chi è interessato a questioni di design e progettazione ambientale – con attenzione particolare agli studenti delle relative materie.
With reference to Roland Barthes' Mythologies (1957), this research documentation identifies, explores, and analyzes - almost seven decades after the publication of the famous French classic - a series of everyday myths of our times. Like a flâneur, Roland Barthes (1915–1980) immersed himself in French everyday culture, formulating observations and positions on it. With reliable subjectivity, he selected themes and phenomena to be examined more closely, skillfully outlining their origins, contexts, messages, and bringing to light - through language that was at once precise, playful, and unmasking - their characteristics and peculiarities.
The present update, in relation to the 21st century, takes place - following Barthes' example - in the form of short and incisive texts about contemporary everyday phenomena. More than 30 international authors have accepted the invitation to identify today’s everyday myths and, alongside descriptions and observations, to formulate their positions on the subject.
Different from Barthes' now-legendary initiative, the research documented in this volume focuses on themes and questions related to the fields of design, architecture, art, and the environment. On the one hand, the contributions themselves come from designers, curators, artists, and theorists. On the other hand, the project is aimed at those interested in questions of design and environmental planning - with particular attention to students in related disciplines.
