Abstract
Food Innovation is a constant challenge for researchers, industry and policy makers. To answer to such need, the Coordinators of PhD courses in Food Sciences and Food Biotechnology are continuously faced to push their pupils into cutting edge researches, keeping up their creativity and passion.
Innovative research in food science typically regards the qualitative and functional characterization of ingredients and foods, either with traditional or innovative technologies, but always with the ultimate goal to improve their safety, quality and shelf-life. Moreover, driven by the global changes of the modern Societies, young PhD researchers are continuously faced to new and challenging research questions, including food sustainability, bio-economy and waste recovery, just to cite a few.
With a pioneering spirit, more than twenty years ago, the Coordination of Italian Doctorates promoted a joint event on an annual basis, with the aim of putting together PhD students, stakeholders and the crew of Italian professors in the field of food science. Their idea was to present the current research activities in a common academic environment, sharing knowledge and boosting scientific networks.
Now and for the first time, we are pleased to announce that the organization of the Workshop on the Developments in the Italian PhD Research on Food Science, Technology and Biotechnology comes to the University of Bozen-Bolzano on the 20-22nd of September 2017. The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano is a young but fast growing University located in one of the most fascinating European regions, at the crossroads between the German-speaking and Italian economies and cultures. The features that make it unique are its trilingualism in teaching and research, its high level of internationalisation as well as an ideal study environment guaranteed by its excellent facilities.
In accordance with the long tradition accompanying the event, the workshop will be organized in a series of parallel sessions for oral communications, three plenary lectures, a poster session and a final round table. Furthermore, following the success of the event in Portici 2016, the Award “What For?” will be presented again also thank to the continuous support of Federalimentare. Not less important, the Workshop will include also a social program that will provide pleasant and relaxed atmosphere for all the participants.
Finally, the Organizers would like to express their gratitude to all people and Institutions that are contributing to the sustainment of the Conference and wish to all participants a pleasant stay in Bolzano.
