Abstract
The article presents a programme developed at the Institute for Specialised Communication and Multilingualism of the European Academy of Bolzano called Verweis Viewer. The programme generates and visualises the entire conceptual system of a selected (sub)domain, in our case Italian labour law or traffic law, on the basis of the relations between terminological entries stored in a MultiTerm database. Verweis Viewer shows all the multiple relations between the terminological entries attributed to the selected domain.
It thus helps spotting the central conceptual nodes (main terms) of the domain. By highlighting which relations are bidirectional and which not, it allows finding possible human mistakes in the terminology database or incomplete classifications. By marking the links that point to inexistent entries, it allows spotting spelling mistakes, necessary updates or further work needed. The graphic representation illustrates the complexity of the selected domain and gives clues as to the conceptual distance between specific terms.
