Abstract
This paper provides a literature review on the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), one of the most important Corporate Social Responsibility initiative worldwide. The review addresses key issues related to UNGC, including the motivations for adopting the standard, the main critiques moved toward the initiative, the impacts on firms adhering to the Compact, and the contextual factors affecting the joining decision and the impacts registered. Finally, stemming from the weaknesses of the actual literature, we shed light on various research gaps and propose a theory-based research agenda on UNGC for OM scholars, aiming at providing guidelines for future research activities.
