Abstract
Background: Organizing a high-quality coding camp, whether online or hybrid, presents a unique set of challenges, including (but not limited to) logistics, effective invitation strategies, and staffing. Aims: The OSCAR project aims to address these issues by taking a holistic approach that will lead to the creation of a comprehensive handbook and a supporting platform. Method: Three coding camps will be organized as use cases for testing the handbook and platform. Results: The first releases of the platform and handbook are ready for experimentation in the first use case, which is scheduled for September 2025. Conclusions: This paper presents the relevant results obtained so far and highlights the challenges that are of interest to the ESEM community, such as assessing participants' learning based on a combination of metrics tailored to the development process and the final software products.
