Abstract
Chapter 1, the introduction, develops together with the question about the character of the net-medium to function as a catalyst of societal transformations the intention of the whole paper. Chapter 2 formulates guiding questions in order to explore the influences of the net-medium on to societal transformation processes whilst following not only descriptive but also emancipatory knowledge-interests. Chapter 3 tackles how techno-medial perception communication and action related elements intervene with one another and how they are going to produce through their convergence a characteristic pattern of development. Chapter 4 outlines a fundamental thesis on the structuration of interdependent societal transformations and the evolution of the net-medium whereby underlining important reconfigurations related to space and time as well as virtuality and reality. Chapter 5 describes four fields of research, that is identity and community, knowledge and economy, privacy and (the) public as wells as (in)security and confidence. Chapter 6 presents an analytic model and some corresponding notions in order to explore the relationship of media, technology and society while following the intention to combine theoretical and empirical issues. Chapter 7, the resume, takes up the introductory posed question about the character of the net-medium to function as catalyst of societal transformation processes and considers how to answer this question using a more extended idea of societal co-evolution.
