Abstract
KEY POINTS:
This research investigates the evolutionary trajectories of Alpine rivers from the end of the Little Ice Age to the
1950’s, in order to determine the possible role of climatic variations
The statistical relationships among morphological changes and various basins parameters in catchments featuring
low anthropic pressures, different glacial cover and land use were analysed
The broad range of width and pattern variations does not indicate a single trajectory of change, and the effects of
climatic variations is possibly apparent but rather weak
