Abstract
National and international studies have highlighted that ecosystems provide an essential support to communities and territories. The current land management policies still not appropriately consider the environmental, economic and social values of the ecosystem services, as well as problems and costs of the degradation and the loss of ecosystems. However, a recent Italian law (221/2015) has introduced a cutting-edge Payment System for Ecosystem and Environmental Services (PSEA) in line with the most important international resolutions and oriented to a concrete green economy. Starting from the innovative aspects introduced by the law, this paper intends offering some reflections about the governance issue of the ecosystems services, with a specific attention to the terraced landscapes, in relation to the benefits for the local community provided by the Natural Capital.
