Abstract
GROW is a platform that inspires and supports interdisciplinary art/science projects. Here we present two selected projects/case studies deve- loped by young master students (textile and industrial design) crossing the borders of art and science. One of these projects follows under the name of ”Exploring the invisible” – where Anna Schröder is exploring the artistic poten- tial of fungi in the field of textile design. She has been advancing fabrics with fungi growth discovering changes in aesthetic (coloring, blea- ching, patterns) and mechanical (fire-resistance, thermal insulation, mechanical stability) pro- perties. The second project is entitled: “Bone project” which is reconsidering the use of (currently wasted) animal bones. The aim of the project is to convert an abundant raw material into a main stream material and demonstrate that this particular material can be further used in a sustainable way instead of being treated as “waste”. These two art/science projects success- ful represent examples of the potential of working at discipline boundaries.
