Abstract
Virtually all supply chains rely on the use of minerals. This comes along with substantial reputational and supply risks, as the provision of mineral resources is associated with severe sustainability impacts and supply volatility. To counter that, a rising number of certification schemes are set up in the minerals sector. This study identified 16 standards applicable in this field and reviewed them with regard to their potential use as a tool in sustainable supply chain management. As a result, the blind spots of the certificates are excavated and directions for an evolution of the standards is provided.
