This study presents preliminary findings from the ORCHESTRA project, which aims to enhance urban stormwater management in Bolzano, South Tyrol. The project’s objective is to integrate green technologies, nature-based solutions (NbS) and advanced digital technologies, including digital twins, in order to address urban challenges. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of NbS and green technologies, with an assessment of their effectiveness conducted through a SWAT analysis. This evaluation considers potential implementations to enhance flood resilience, water quality and urban biodiversity in two case studies in Bolzano. It outlines subsequent steps for the planning and implementation of NbS in Bolzano and potentially similar regions, including site selection, cost-benefit analysis, stakeholder engagement and overcoming potential barriers. The findings highlight practical applications and emphasise the importance of a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to urban planning that leverages both ecological and technological innovations to foster sustainable and resilient urban development.
