Abstract

Women-Centric Makerspaces Training of Trainers ADDIE framework Sustainable Experience Skills
Few training programs focus on unique features of women-centric Makerspaces. Most offer general guidelines that overlook gender-related dynamics or community goals. It is essential to equip women managing Makerspaces with skills to transfer knowledge and ensure sustainability. This contribution designs a personalized Training of Trainers (ToT) program in female university Makerspaces (FUMs) in Ethiopia and Djibouti, part of the Ethiopian-Djibouti Female at Makerspace (EtD-FaM) Erasmus + project, which will establish six FUMs. A personalized ToT program is being designed for female representatives, managers, and assistants/technicians for efficient management. This study focuses on the ToT program’s design and implementation using the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) framework. The program is organized into five categories: Makerspace mastery, workplace safety, leadership and management, technology and digital creation, and smart female entrepreneurs. Each category incorporates methods to foster technical and soft skills. The ADDIE model is used from design to evaluation to develop a structured program addressing learners’ needs. The concept has been validated by stakeholders and is flexible, using a hybrid format combining online and in-person sessions. A business model for the training program is presented using the Canvas Business Model. The findings suggest that the ADDIE model simplifies the design process through predefined instructions, ensuring successful long-term application in FUMs and sustainable experience.
