Abstract
The multiple social, cultural, political and environmental challenges posed by the complexities and transformations of the contemporary world require a post-disciplinary education. In this complex scenario, design culture and artistic practice can provide an alternative model for thinking, planning and creating possible and desirable futures, and outline new models for research and education. The pioneering PhD programme in Experimental Research through Design, Art and Technologies, starting in the 2024-25 academic year at the [name of the university], Italy, proposes to shape new research profiles capable of integrating design and artistic, humanistic and social methods, knowledge and skills hybridised with scientific-technological ones. However, this raises a number of structural challenges. The paper presents and critically discusses the open questions raised by the postdisciplinarity approach of the research doctorate. It aims to highlight the challenges and potentials of hybrid education in design and art at the convergence of technologies, humanities and socioeconomic issues.
