Abstract
Chinese outbound tourism has been the subject of several investigations, including reviews of existing literature. Although a number of papers have focused on extensive reviews of Chinese outbound tourism, none has reviewed systematically two types of Chinese outbound tourists. Moreover, Chinese outbound tourists are not a single homogenous group, but increasingly diversifying in terms of motivations and behaviours. Therefore, this study aims to comprehensively review the literature on mainland outbound Chinese tourists who either take part in package tours or travel on their own. To do so, the articles collected are carefully screened and included in the light of the PRISMA protocol, and are then assigned to different topics. The results of the review will help scholars catch up with the state-of-the-art of Chinese outbound tourists and help business practitioners cater to their needs by travel arrangement.
