Abstract
Since 2015, Italian mountain regions have received asylum seekers and refugees through the so called "redistribution policies". Often criticized as means of spatial segregation, such policies can be regarded as an opportunity for the valorisation of local resources and innovation capacity (Perlik, Membretti, 2018) while also leading to successful labor integration of asylum seekers and refugees. This presentation addresses the framework conditions and policy arrangements that can lead to a positive interaction between local communities and newcomers. It presents a selection of case studies from across the Italian Alps, with particular attention to the activities designed and deployed in support of labor market integration.
