Abstract

This session focuses on the two subnational cases of Vorarlberg and South Tyrol citizens' assembly for climate, including the possibility of scaling up these initiatives at the global level. More specifically, lessons learned from these experiences suggest rethinking similar issues faced at global level, such as the choice between a mono-linguistic v pluri-linguistic approach, how to be truly inclusive by representing all the groups within the society, especially the most affected by the climate crisis, and how to include all people from different geographical contexts. Participants will learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of these peculiar subnational cases and will be invited to give feedback in terms of how to scale them up at the global level. The session will be led by Dr. Francesca Rosignoli, senior researcher at Eurac Research.
