Abstract
This talk examines the role of language in education through the lens of social justice and decoloniality. The participants will be encouraged to reflect on how language ideologies and policies can contribute to reproducing unequal power relations and perpetuating linguistic and epistemic injustices. Special attention will be given to exploring the existing debate on the use of English as a medium of instruction, both in postcolonial contexts and in Europe. The talk will conclude by exploring strategies to balance the drive for teaching (in) dominant languages with the right to preserve and promote local minority languages and knowledges in education.
