In this talk, I interrogate the relationship between language and power dynamics and structures in South Tyrol (Italy). I do so by constructing the mainstream classroom as a site that can promote epistemic justice through the legitimisation of heritage languages and epistemologies, i.e. the languages and knowledge bases of (often migrantized) more recently settled comunities that don‘t have the same socioeconomic, cultural e institutional status as dominant languages.
