Abstract
How correspond stable forest stands and an optimal cascading use with Climate Change targets? Today, Sustainable managed Alpine forests are required to be prepared for the unexpected: for preventing from damages due to natural hazard and for being flexible in reacting on market disturbances. To optimize the valorization of the domestic forest timber resources and to maximizes CO2 sequestration, a cascading use of forest biomass should be respected: material before energetic use, high quality assortments versus industrial wood, long-term versus short-term use, material upgrade of timber residues and energetic re-use of wood waste. Furthermore, the processing of domestic timber with biomass heating plants, wood-panel constructions, wooden houses or high quality timber furniture, gains a meaningful regional value added.
