Abstract
This presentation introduces an experiment in which we have collected 32 WhatsApp chats and corresponding oral retellings of the chats provided by the data donors. The data was collected with the aim of comparing written conversations (collected through Mocoda2, Beißwenger et al. 2019) with spoken language features focusing on dialect use in written CMC. All participants were university students and speakers of German dialects used in the region around the university. The experiment focused on cross-modal dialect use of the same writer, giving insights on phonographic consistency and variation in written dialect.
