Abstract
The HURRICANE project, a Horizon Europe initiative aimed at revolutionizing disaster response operations by integrating autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and resilient communication systems. The project introduces advanced UGV sensing, UAV-UGV cooperation, dehazing vision algorithms, laser-based UAV charging, and real-time data-driven decision support models. Three full-scale pilot demonstrations (urban, mountainous, and wildfire scenarios) validate the integrated system. This work outlines the technological architecture, main innovations, and early pilot results, contributing to the adoption of robotics as a standard in civil protection operations.
