Abstract
The paper presents at first the background of the genesis of the European Research Network “Cultural Diversity and New Media” (CultMedia). Then it outlines how its research-activities could be elaborated on three levels, the “abstract-conceptional”, the “discursive-comparative”, and the “synthetic-conciliar” level of research. Following that it concentrates on the identification of four central fields of research: “Privacy and the Public Sphere”, “Identity and the Community”, “Knowledge and the Economy”, and “Security/Insecurity and Trust”. At least it considers the theoretical approach of CultMedia while discussing a matrix, the salient points of which are marked by the concepts “culture”, “society”, “the media” and “technology”.
