Abstract

Training should be structured in accordance with general training principles. These principles include, for example, regularity of training and the progressive and individualised adjustment of training time, intensity, and content. For most mountain sports disciplines, various forms of endurance and strength training are central. In terms of endurance training, continuous and interval methods and fartlek training are suitable, with training intensity being regulated via the heart rate reserve method or perceived exertion. For strength training, muscular endurance and muscle-building methods are appropriate. Here, the training load is defined by the number of repetitions and the resistance appropriate to the chosen training method. In addition, mountain sport-specific features, such as downhill walking, should be incorporated into training planning. To transfer physical abilities effectively during a tour, an ascent strategy adapted to the group (e.g. pace selection and structuring of breaks) is essential.
