Abstract
This article aims to reconstruct the senses of place in a small village of Central Apennines. Montegallo has suffered severe depopulation over the last decades and has been affected by the disruptive consequences of the 2016-2017 Central Italy earthquakes. Adopting the eco-relational perspective of the anthropology of landscape, we interpret the post-seismic crisis in the light of an ethnographic account of the complex interweaving of local dwelling practices with memories, narratives and perceptions involved in the process through which locals give senses to their living environment. In this sense, we draw attention to the socio-cultural aspects at stake in terms of the thick yet vulnerable bonds between man and the mountain environment.
