Abstract
We present an attempt to design a device for the visualisation of electrical consumption in order to remediate the way consumption is (not) taken into account by the new Smart Meters installed in basically all Italian households by ENEL, the Italian national electric utility company.
If we assume that responsibility within design has to do with taking into account the effects generated by a certain artefact, then the artefact we present, designed by Simone Marian is an attempt to make a well-known household device more responsible first toward electrical consumption and, eventually, toward environmental
issues related to CO2 emission.
Our paper is furthermore an attempt to test the ability of semiotics to dispose responsible design.
