Abstract
This outlook chapter advances the concept of future-capable practice at the design–governance–management nexus. It argues that in contexts of complexity and uncertainty, transformation requires relational, generative capacities rather than linear planning or isolated expertise. Design, governance, and management are reframed as interdependent modes of collective world-shaping, concerned with legitimacy, coordination, and form-giving. The chapter highlights the need to cultivate supportive institutional cultures, embed iterative and participatory practices into routines, address power and legitimacy more explicitly, and engage the aesthetic and affective dimensions of transformation. It concludes with an invitation to strengthen research, education, and institutional forms that enable meaningful action under uncertainty.
