Abstract
This article analyses the representation of the language groups and genders in South Tyrol’s municipal councils following the 2025 municipal elections and in comparison with previous elections. The analysis is based on data from all 116 municipalities. It examines the representation of the language groups in relation to the language group census and the effect of the gender quota for candidate lists in force since 2022. The results show a stable distribution of the language groups with a continuing underrepresentation of the Italian language group, as well as a moderate increase in the representation of women across the province, indicating a positive effect of the gender quota.
