Abstract
The chapters collected in this volume ambitiously explore the intricate relationship between federalism and democracy across different historical, cultural and political contexts. The studies reveal that federalism is now predominantly, if not exclusively, becoming a constitutional tool to accommodate diversity, whether ethno-national, cultural, linguistic or religious. This trend is particularly prominent in South and Southeast Asia, the geographic region the second part of the book focuses on, but it is also gaining traction globally.
