Abstract
Why do we organise architecture exhibitions? What do we exhibit when we show architecture? What are the aspects related to the built realm that are worth exhibiting and how is the space of an architecture show organised in order to generate communication? What are some relevant examples of architecture exhibitions enacting practices that take a distance from the conventional form of the show and provide the public with a different way of engaging with the issues of the exhibition? Is the architecture exhibition merely the presentation of substitutes for buildings that cannot be moved or can it be something more?
These questions relate to the issues addressed in a research project carried at the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free university of Bozen Bolzano and collected in the publication „Displayed Spaces. New Means of Architecture Representation through Exhibitions“. The aim of this text is to explain the organisation of the results of the research within a broader context and critically contextualise the contributions of the authors invited to contribute to the publication in the editorial structure of the book.
