Abstract
This conceptual study examines the relevance of the Global Mindset (GM) concept for academics and practitioners interested in forming and managing effective and efficient International Virtual Research Teams (IVRT). We provide an overview of the relevant literature on IVRT to identify existing gaps and factors that can improve team management. We also summarize existing conceptualizations of GM and its main research focuses. Using three relevant mediators, namely trust between team members, the leader-member-exchange concept, and team and organizational commitment, we demonstrate how a high level of GM can have a positive impact on the success of IVRT. Finally, we present a model to demonstrate the relationship between GM scores and individual behavioral responses and the ultimate success of the team. We conclude by discussing implications for future research and development in the field, as well as implications for practitioners.
