Abstract
While corpus linguistics has perhaps not revolutionized language teaching to the extent some anticipated, its applications are diverse and impactful. In this entry, key distinctions are drawn between indirect applications of corpora, where corpus data informs teaching materials and syllabuses, and direct applications, such as Data-Driven Learning, where learners directly interact with corpus data. Corpus-informed approaches have enhanced vocabulary and grammar instruction, challenged intuition-based descriptions, and emphasized authentic language patterns and features of spoken language. The acquisition of corpus literacy has been recognised as an important component of teacher training. Looking forwards, the integration of Large Language Models promises to introduce new possibilities for corpus linguistics in language teaching.
