Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to verify if in South Tyrol the organization of mothers’ networks of social support differ in the Italian and German linguistic groups.
Method: We administered to 88 Italian and 96 German mothers of children aged 2 to 5 years a Social Network Questionnaire in which indicate who help them in childcare.
Results: Germans declare to obtain social support in childrearing mostly from their friends (32.4%), while Italians relay on the support offered by their own family (35.3%).
Conclusion: Cultural differences in the way mothers organize their networks do exist.
